The revolution of cryptocurrency payments is taking another step further. One of the most historical landmarks in the center of Kiev, the capital of Ukraine, Besarabsky market has recently started accepting crypto payments. The announcement was published in Facebook by the publish communal company that operates the famous market.
Besarabsky Market had already been accepting Bitcoin Cash (BCH) and recently added Bitcoin (BTC) and variation of other currencies such as Ethereum(ETH), Litecoin(LTC), Dash, Nano, NEM, EOS and Waves as an alternative payment methods. The purpose of this experimental stage is to show people how easy it is to use crypto payments, like in this case, to buy fruits and vegetables from the market. The crypto purchases are made easily through a QR code, and sellers receive the payments briefly in fiat Ukrainian Hryvnias. This alternative payment method will increase the awareness among the local people, and also attract tourists from all around the world who are familiar with crypto payments affecting positively to the sale growth.
The name of the project “Babushka” means Grandma in Ukrainian. The main goal of the project is to example how convenient and easy crypto payments can be in our daily lives.
According to the Operations Director at Paytomat Ukraine, Alexander Kurin, the most challenging part is to convince the sellers that they will receive the payments in fiat currency shortly without paying any extra money and time to do it.
“The main idea is a symbiosis between traditions and innovations. We chose the Besarabsky market because it is a well-known tourist destination, and cryptocurrencies are a universal means of payment in any country.”
Paytomat is operating in order to introduce cryptocurrency payments in several restaurants, cafes, online stores as well as in schools, clinics and beauty salons. It offers various payment solutions like web panel, QR code, POS terminal and WordPress plugin. The platform is used by businesses and merchants from Ukraine and Georgia in the East to Spain and Netherlands in the west. Paytomat is working with over 330 stores and restaurants, and currently supports 11 cryptocurrencies.
