The world’s multinational conglomerate giant Samsung’s production wing, Samsung Foundry has recently launched a new, revolutionary production process of its 7LPP – the LPP (Low Power Plus) 7-nanometer (nm) lithography technology with an extreme ultraviolet (EUV). This process node is considered as an eco-friendly solution – it can reduce the company’s energy consumption by up to 50 percent, as said in the official press release on October, 18.
The new EUV-based 7LPP chips will be less energy consuming and dense (area efficient), and this could have more positive and environmental effect for the crypto miners that are using hardware from Samsung. This is great news for miners using samsung, as we know how critical factor the costs of energy is in the mining industry.
The vice president of marketing team and foundry sales at the Samsung Electronics, Charlie Bae, stated at the press release, that the introduction of the 7LPP is a remarkable milestone in the industry. He said, that the “fundamental shift” of disks manufacturing is going to be an “optimal choice not only for mobile and HPC, but also for a wide range of cutting-edge applications.
As the development of the mining hardwares are growing rapidly, the chips are becoming smaller and smaller – and more powerful. The release of the 7LPP process node will be a huge stepstone for the technology roadmap of Samsung Foundry. According to Samsung, the 7LPP will empower a big technological push in the Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence (AI), 5G, automotive and hyperscale and enterprise datacenter.
Samsung announced, that the first chips to be used is targeted to high performance computing (HPC) and mobile applications. How ever, The technology giant didn’t yet confirm the names of the first ones to use the new 7LPP manufacturing technology.
